How to look after your skin for your Wedding Day
All brides want to look (and feel) their absolute best for their wedding day, and the most important thing for them (after weight loss) is to have beautiful glowing skin. This is something that needs to be taken care of way before the big day. So if you’re getting married soon, as in the next month or two, now is a good time to get your pre-wedding skin care routine underway.
Yes, getting a good makeup artist is great as this can help cover up a multitude of sins, but not everything. So get your beautification going now so that on the day, your makeup can sit on the healthiest skin.
Here are 5 tips to help you look after your skin before your wedding day
#1 Get plenty of sleep! Yes you read it right. Over and above the lotions and potions, your skin benefits enormously from routinely getting enough sleep. I hear many brides say “I’m going to have fillers a few days before my wedding…”. Fillers (and I have nothing against them trust me) are used because of a lack of collagen. Did you know that your collagen replenish occurs during sleep? And lack of sleep increases cortisol, the stress hormone that plays havoc with skin. So your number 1 beauty treatment must be getting plenty of sleep to keep your skin full, fresh and glowing.
#2 Again something natural, before any lotion or potion. Keep hydrated with water! How simple is that. Water helps to maintain elasticity in the skin, which reduces signs of line and wrinkles. Water also keeps the skin looking fresh with a natural glow, as opposed to dull looking from dehydration. So. Drink plenty of water, not just in the run up to your wedding, but always.
#3 Give your skin a treat from the inside. In other words, look at what you eat. Eating right - more fresh and less processed will do wonders for improving your skin. Also think about reducing caffeine and, dare I say it, alcohol! If you reduce caffeine this will more than likely get you more sleep; and a reduction in alcohol will help to keep the skin hydrated. Alcohol has a diuretic effect on the skin and can leave it looking dull and unhealthy.
You have all these simple things you can do before applying any creams, lotions and potions. Creams and lotions do their best work for you when your skin is already healthy. So here are a couple more tips for you.
#4 Cleanse. Tone. Moisturise. This little beauty routine can help your skin enormously. If you’re not already doing this or have never done it before, it’s essential you leave yourself enough time before your wedding to try and test out what works for your skin. Finding a good cleanser, toner and moisturiser can be a task and a half if you’re not sure what to go for. If you’re very new at it, you could try (although I’m no expert) using Simple products and work your way from there. Also talk to your makeup artist that you’re using for your wedding makeup, as they usually have a load of ideas.
#5 Exfoliate! Yes, remove that dead skin. Exfoliation helps to maintain good circulation and keeps the skin looking fresh and glowing. Again, if you’re new at this, have a chat with your makeup artist and see what they recommend, or start with Simple skincare products.
I hope this little lot helps you to look after your skin before your wedding day. I can definitely vouch for the first 3 items because I do those myself to look after my skin. But, not being a makeup artist or expert, these are my suggestions rather than endorsements.
Happy wedding day you beautiful thing! Dee xx
